How to Recover from Bites, Burns & Being Overbooked


Dear Reader,

Summer invites us to be outdoors more, say “yes” to everything, and soak in the sun — but that comes with some hidden health risks that many people overlook.

From insect-borne infections to emotional fatigue, July has a way of pushing the limits of our physical and nervous systems. But the good news? A few simple recovery strategies go a long way.

🦟 Mosquitoes and ticks are out in full force — Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves in wooded areas, and check your body for ticks after hikes or yard work. Early detection matters with tick-borne illnesses. If a tick has been attached for more than 72 hours, contact your healthcare expert for further recommendations. The CDC also offers helpful guidance HERE.

💥 Heat cramps, rashes, and dizziness are signals — not inconveniences — They often mean your body is overheating. Take breaks, hydrate with electrolytes, and don’t push through symptoms. This is especially essential if you take certain medications such as diuretics (water pills) or have medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease (and others). 🧠 Your nervous system needs recovery too — A busy social calendar, travel, and high heat can all trigger low-level burnout. Build in 10–15 minutes of quiet time several times daily — no screens, no stimulation — to reset your system.

😴 “Tired but wired”? You may be overstimulated — Hot weather, poor sleep, and sugar/alcohol all compound this. Focus on winding down with cool showers, dim lighting, and magnesium-rich foods at night.

TL;DR:

You don’t have to choose between enjoying summer and protecting your health. You just need to stay tuned in and give your body what it needs — hydration, boundaries, and breaks from stimulation.

Listen early. Prevent more. And give yourself permission to rest — especially when life gets fun and full.
